Armenia – country, which has a centuries-old history, original ancient traditions and rich culture. Armenia gave the world many talented figures, and it is not surprising that there are lots of museums in Yerevan, which give tourists an opportunity to feel an incomparable spirit of Ancient Armenia.  Sergei Parajanov Museum – an ingenious director, an artistic person, the director of films, such as “Shadows of forgotten ancestors”, “The color of pomegranates”, “The legend of Suram fortress”, “Ashik Kerib”. The house-museum of the talented director was found in 1988; when his first exhibition took place in Yerevan. Although, Parajanov never lived in Yerevan, the Government of the Republic of Armenia decided to open his house-museum in 1988. The collection of the museum consists of Parajanov's 600 works (assemblage, collage, paintings, dolls, sketches from films), the interior of his house in Tbilisi and personal items. In showcases of the museum you can also see Parajanov's not finished scripts. By the way, Parajanov loved making costumes and accessories by himself. That is why every item in the museum keeps the memory about him.

 Genocide Museum. The museum was found in 1995, because of the 80th anniversary of the horrible event. In the museum, you can see demographic data, photos, archival documents about Armenian population and settlements also, photos presenting the peaceful life of Armenians before the genocide. There are books about the genocide of Armenians, published by different countries, also original documents recognizing and judging the horrifying events, presented in the museum. People, who visit here, can't leave the place indifferent. 

 History museum of Armenia. It was found in 1921. National collection of the museum consists of 400000 collected artifacts. Archeological, numismatic and ethnographic unique samples, exhibits of history and culture of Armenia relating to the period from Stone Age to the end of the XIX century. 

 Modern Art Museum of Yerevan. It was found in 1972. The museum gives the visitors a unique opportunity to see the works of Armenian modern artists.

 M.Sarian House-Museum. Martiros Sarian's house-museum was built by the decision of the Governement of Armenia in 20th century. It is a two-story house, where Sarian's generation used to live and work. Almost nothing changed in Sarian's house-museum, compared to the times he lived there: the workroom and other rooms have not been changed.  The grand piano, which famous compositor Aram Khachaturyan used to play, also was preserved. This house was the favorite meeting place of the artists of XX century. Famous portraits, landscapes full of sun, light and air, yellow wheat fields and blue sky: all of this you can contemplate at the house-museum of the legendary artist. Sarian's heritage consists of about 5000 paintings. They are kept in the galleries across the world. 

 Mesrop Mashtots Institute of Ancient Manuscripts. Ancient manuscripts in Armenian, Arabic, Persian, Russian and other languages are held and studied here. The oldest examples are dated in the 5th century AD. The whole heritage of Matenadaran consists of more than 17000 ancient manusctipts and more than 100000 old archival scripts. Matenadaran – not only a museum, but also a big research center.  Ancient manuscripts are studied in Matenadaran.
