Lake Sevan is a favorite tourist destination.

The churches of St. Astvatsatsin (St. Holy Virgin) and St. Arakelots (St. Apostles) were built in 874. The churches have been built by the decree of Miriam, the daughter of the king Ashot the First.

At the end of the 9th century, the battle of King Ashot the First against the Arabs took place on the territory of the monastery. In the 16-17 centuries, the monastery was destroyed. In the medieval Armenia, Sevanavank was a significant historical and architectural complex. Today, the monastery is active, and at Sevanavank operates a Theological Seminary after Vazgen I.
